The report for the year 2017 has been submitted.  The women of GFWC AWC are very hard workers.  Thank you to all who have helped in all of our programs.  We have been able to give scholarships in the amount of $10,500 this year.  That amount of money was due to the great work of our Fundraising committee and the people who participated in the fundraising events. We were able to given 3 scholarships in memory of our ladies who passed.  The seven women who spent many hours working to choose the recipients of the scholarships, I thank you for all of your many hours of volunteer work.  It is a very hard job with much responsibility.

To the ladies who “Read With the Kids,” I know how much joy we get out of the program besides the gratitude that we receive from the teachers and children.  Good job ladies.  As you read this article, I am in need of three volunteers to read with the kids.  Some of our ladies are heading for the warm weather for a few months.  Please let me know if you are available in February and March.

In a few months applications for scholarships will be ready for us to start our work all over again.  Thank you in advance for all the efforts that you put forward.

Our Club awarded scholarships to very bright, resourceful students from Antioch Community High School and Lakes Community High school.

An excerpt taken from a thank you card written by our Vocational Education Scholarship winner: I will be continuing my education as a Freshman at Milwaukee School of Engineering.  I will be studying Architectural Engineering and I plan on working with green energy and different energy conservation techniques in my future career.  I will also be playing basketball on their division three basketball team.  My goal is to get my masters degree in five years and thanks to you, I am one step closer to that goal.  By awarding me the Antioch Woman’s Club Vocational Education Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community.  I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me….Amy Reiser.

In order to continue our education endeavors, AWC will need volunteers for the committees that work with: Scholarship; Reading at Petty School; and, if wanted, the continuation of our Book Club.

The Education committee provides volunteers to read with the children at Petty School on a weekly basis.  Volunteers are asked for just one day a week for one month at a time.

The committee also awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Lakes and Antioch High Schools.  We also provide funds for one or two students to attend Leadership Camps in the summer.  In addition, we award the Lilly Petty Scholarship annually.
