Operation Smile & Heifer International
AWC members convene at the Meeting House in Antioch once a month to make quilts for children who receive surgeries from Operation Smile. Some women are seamstresses, but others just cut fabric into squares and assemble kits for the seamstresses to finish.
We send about 100 quilts each year.
Operation Smile has provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.
Our quilting meetings will be held the 4th Monday of the month at the Meeting House in Antioch from 9AM to noon. Our first meeting will be Monday, Sept. 26.
I would like to thank all of you for your time and donations this past year. We sent out 101 quilts, 494 beanie babies, and 32 gowns–piling up over 452 hours of work. We appreciate all of your work and help during the meeting.
Wishing you all a great 2018!
During their birthday month, members contribute money that supports
During your birthday month, we simply ask that you drop a donation into the birthday cake donation box that is passed around at each monthly meeting. Heifer International will use this money to purchase animals for families in foreign countries.
So far our birthday box has enabled us to buy 1 goat, 1 trio of rabbits, 1 flock of chicks, 1 duck, and 1 goose for Heifer International.
Honeybees will provide honey, wax and pollen to sell, while also pollinate crops. Families receive a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks. Every egg is a nutritious gift for a hungry child. A good hen can lay up to 200 eggs per year, so there are plenty of eggs for families to eat, share, or sell. The ducks and/or geese help families improve their nutrition and income through the production and sale of eggs, meat, and birds.
Thanks and Happy Birthday to all that donated to the Heifer project. If you miss the month of your birthday, you can make a donation at any other monthly meeting.
