This committee sponsors clothing and dry-good drives for A Safe Place, a facility providing a home for women and children who have escaped from domestic abuse.
Find a list of needs and items you can donate here.
A note from A Safe Place: Thank you for your generous donations; “It is not just the monetary donations that ensure that our organization can continue to provide for victims. It is also the items that so many supporters provide us on a daily basis – the paper products and toiletries that make everyday life possible, the clothing that keeps victims warm, and the food that nourishes women and children who left everything behind when they fled violent homes seeking safety.”
We will be collecting paper goods for February: Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Kleenex.
Thank you again for all of your support.
I spoke with A Safe Place. They are desperately in need of NEW bath towels; they are almost out and can’t accept any new people until they have them.
They have not received state funding in over a year. They were promised $500K in the new budget for this year and it never happened. Several shelters south have closed due to the cuts. They are trying to just keep their head above water, so they have had to cut some services and staff. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. They typically get 35 to 50 women with children in emergency every month for their 90 day program, and they house 40 women and 120 children in permanent housing until they transition to their own, which is usually a year or two.
Other items needed most are: NEW XL-Twin Sheet Sets & Pillows.
So if at anytime someone would like to donate over the summer, please just drop the items off at my office in town. Keep your receipt for your tax write off; just tell me the value for our club. Remember, these items must be NEW.
During the holiday season, we also collect unwrapped gifts and/or gift cards for the women and children.
Thanks to all who participated in September’s paper products drive for A Safe Place. We collected $277.85 of in-kind donations, including 4 cell phones and $60.00 in cash and gift cards.
Don’t forget that November’s collection is clothing. It can be delivered to St. Ignatius God’s Will shop at Deep Lake and Depot streets. Please give me a list of what you donate. Tell the ladies you are from AWC. Sometimes they will give you a receipt with the total value of your items and that’s all I need. Hours of operation are Wed, 9-4, Thurs, 11-7, Fri, 9-4 and Sat, 9-2. I will be outside collecting from those who bring their items to the meeting . PLEASE INCLUDE A LIST OF THESE ITEMS.
Also a reminder that December is the toy drive for A Safe Place. Bring unwrapped toys for the children to our holiday luncheon. Gifts for the moms are also always appreciated. Gift cards, wrapping paper and tape can always be used. Andrea will be taking care of this collection as I will be away. I know you are always generous. Have a wonderful holiday season.
They depend upon the generosity of the community for many of their operational needs as
well as personal items for their clients. They are also very thankful to receive gift cards to purchase these items since they do not have a lot of storage space.
Gift cards are easy! Even a $5 gift card will be much appreciated.
Also, A Safe Place is always looking for old cell phones and chargers.
